Basically this diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) is for our environment so we have less harmful emissions coming out of the exhaust system of a diesel engine vehicle.
How it works is this fluid is sprayed into your exhaust gas before it enters the catalytic converter and the fluid will combine with the gas and goes into the catalytic converter to chemicalised its harmful gasses to less harmful gasses so we could have cleaner exhaust emission.
👨🔧When to re-fill the DEF: usually every 10,000km or nearing, also depends on how hard you are on the accelerator pedal.👨🔧 So ideally every time your 5,000km to 10,000km mileage service you should have it refilled.
If fluid is low or finished⚠️ :
- Usually there will be a warning indicator or message that appears on your instrument cluster.
- Restricted engine performance or engine unable to start until DEF is refilled.
- So ideally you want to treat DEF like filling up diesel fuel, NO DEF = NO GO.
